Be involved in every aspect of the harvest run, from working in the workshop to operating and maintaining machinery. CAEP custom harvest hosts use modern equipment and have good management skills. Trainees must be adaptable to living in tight spaces, and get along well with others.
Most CAEP custom harvest participants start their harvest run in Texas and end up at the Canadian border. A trainee sees a tremendous amount of the “Heartland,” experiencing different operations on their way north.
Skills to be learned:
- Operate and take part in harvest and field work in the most efficient manner possible
- Learn good general maintenance skills
- Marketing of crops
- Operation of farm machinery and road vehicles
- Maintenance and repair of farm machinery
- Harvesting of crops
- Exposure to field testing of new combines and headers
