Program participants have an opportunity to learn what it takes to run a landscape contracting firm, from field level landscape maintenance and enhancement operations to gaining insight into the management side of the business. Daily work includes: turf management, bed work, irrigation monitoring and adjustments, enhancement projects and seasonal color installations and maintenance. Some landscape design placements are available for those that qualify. Placements start in April and end in October.

Some of the duties may include:

  • Planting of trees
  • Shrubs
  • Ground cover and flowers
  • Laying sod
  • Following landscape designs
  • Use of machinery (lawn mowers, trucks, Bobcats, earth moving machinery, etc.)
  • Constructing landscape structures
  • Limited placements with landscape design
